How do you restyle and/or decorate the wall above bed? It's always a struggle to decide what to put above the bed. Should it be functional or just pretty? Is it better to light it up or leave it dark? Let's learn how to make a good decision.
Years ago, I was desperate to put a long high shelf above my bed and fill it with plants, lovely long trailers for the ultimate in boho chic. However, I didn’t, for the sole reason that a) in order to put plants in, the shelf would need to be solid as a rock, a standard that I had no chance of meeting, and b) a friend told me that if I DID fill the space above my head with plants, the trailing fronds would basically be a route for the spiders to climb down and nest in my head. Or worse. I’m quite glad I didn’t, mostly because I didn’t put myself at risk of death by shelf collapse.
Anyway, what to put above the bed is always a quandary. Really, the only shelves to put up in safety are picture ledges as they are light enough that even if they did land on your head, they would only land hard enough to send you on a quick trip to A&E, not the grave. Pictures are a fairly safe bet, although I would avoid huge glass frames just to be on the safe side. Canvases are excellent, as are smaller prints. Create your own gallery, mixing up big and small frame (the big one without glass possibly, paint, postcard pictures.
